Nicely done. You should be quite proud of all that work.
Now the car is sorted, are you not tempted to strip the other engine down to see what was wrong with it?
Yes Ben, put me out of my misery

I will be taking the head off of the old engine before it goes. I need to find out what was wrong and i know Carlos will wonder for ever if i don't!
As i said earlier, i'm very pleased with it. The engine ticks over like a sewing machine and revs lovely and smoothly.
I cleaned the EGR and inlet manifold thoroughly before i fitted it and i think that has made a difference.
I will service the engine every 3000 miles from now on too and while i do, i shall remove and clean the EGR as i know they soot up rather quickly.
i might end up doing an EGR delete as not only will it be better for the engine, it improves performance too so i have heard.
I need to take it to have the A/C regassed but ill see how it goes. I won't need it yet anyway.
I swapped over the insurance this evening but it will take 2 working days to complete the switch so it won't be on the road tomorrow
And Carlos, we have discussed coming over soon so ill let you know and you can chill the beers
I just want to say a big cheers to all who have followed, given advice and spurred me on to complete it.
Oh and i worked it out, by the time i scrap the donor and sell the injectors, the whole finished car will owe me about £85!
so apart for all of the labour and the cut and bruised arms and hands, it's a very cheap car!

Cheers!
I have learnt quite alot doing this so that's always a good thing.
Besides, i wouldn't have been able to afford to replace my dying old 106 with anything better than another dying car of some sort so this is a nice cheap way of getting into a better car.
It leaves more money to spend on the Mini!

EGR delete is definitely the way to go, just a £3 blanking plate has made a massive difference to my diesel zs fiesta! :)

Put in the gearbox oil today which took AGES! I had to remove all of the intercooler ductwork again to do it but luckily i am an expert at it now.
Then started the horrific task of cleaning it. 5 hours later and it's looking better.
It does need doing again though as it was a bit half arsed.
I'm still waiting for the insurance to go live.....

First drive report:
Chucks out a bit of smoke when you first pull away (i guess this is to be expected)
Gear changes are very tight and hard to engage sometimes, especially when changing down through the box (need to adjust the selector shaft)
It is a bit sluggish from set off but then rev's increase and the turbo kicks in. It feels slow (not sure about this)
But nothing fell off and no funny noises apart from an unknown noise when you first start to move off in 1st which immediately goes as you get going. It sounds like it's coming from the o/s front corner.
Overall, not too bad. I think it probably just needs driving and will improve as i go. I'm just not sure why it feels sluggish??
