I'm sure it will be fine. I can't see what can go wrong really. Perfect running engine bolted in and hooked up. Simples...I hope

I just hope it's worth it. I need this car to last me. i don't like keep changing cars and i can't afford to get a new car.
Once the engine is done, ill tart it right up, do all the bits and bobs and then look after it properly.

Quick question.
The coolant that was in the car is thick and green and the coolant i have got to go in is thin and blue.
Should i go out and buy green instead or run the car with plain water to flush it out and then fill with the blue?
I'm sure i heard you can't mix types and colours..
Mine has the pink in just to confuse matters.

Today has been very slow progress due both to the horrendous weather conditions and a few problems i had.
I undid the castle nut on the n/s hub on the red one so i could get the driveshaft out and once i had undone the bottom ball joint, track rod and pulled it clear, i couldn't free the splines from the hub so i had to resort to this
Oh well, it's clear of the gearbox so it will do..
And i had an accident whilst jacking up the car which resulted in the car slipping sideways off of the jack so now i inly have this much room to work on the o/s
oops..
Both engines are completely ready to lift out now. I was going to pick up the engine hoist this afternoon and try and finish with it quick enough to only need it for a day but i spoke to them and they have a deal where you pick it up friday lunchtime and return it monday lunchtime and only pay one day hire so i'm doing that instead.
Cheers

If they are visibly poor then you might want to persevere with getting the driveshaft out fully to change them while you have it all in bits.
They fracture between the teeth and then the interference fit fails and they end up twizzing round and out of position.

You might want to check the abs reluctor rings on the cv joints. Mine are fractured and give me an intermittant abs light.

Thanks for that little nugget. Ill have a look and see and if they are fractured, ill check the ones off of the donor car if they are ok.
Is there anything else that you would save from the donor car as spares? anything that they are prone for so i can nab before it goes for scrap?

I noticed that the MAF sensor on the donor engine was disconnected when i removed the air box. Is there any reason he might have disconnected it or could it have just come loose and fell off?
You have to take the big weather shield under the scuttle to get at it and it hasn't been off recently so i don't know.

If removed, it could be because it has failed and he had poor running, especially in the lower rev range. These often ping up and EML if failed. Quite often, people disconnect them but fuel consumption will be increased.
Some more info can be found HERE

Thanks for that link. It was a good read and lots of useful information too.
I will just connect it and see what happens. if it runs and drives perfectly then i guess it just fell of. If there is a problem, it will be the first thing i change.
