You are a sucker for punishment! For an old Scenic, you are damned committed to it! I doubt I would have the same enthusiasm for my Focus and I have grown to quite like that!
I hope it all works out in the end!

If all goes to plan, by the time i have scrapped what i don't need and sold a few bits the finished car will owe me less than £200 so although it is going to be a fair amount of work, i will eventually end up with a car that suits my needs for very little money.

I know. It's taken ages but i have been busy with other things so it has mostly sat there doing nothing all that time.
I have wasted most of it's MOT but then i suppose it has only done 46 miles since it was last mot'd so should go back through ok

sorted.
Done the deal on the donor car this afternoon.
Being a Renault mechanic and so being able to do so for free, he has done an oil service on it every 3000 miles. The engine is very strong, sounds perfect with no funny noises or smoke and it's also very dry i.e no oil all over it.
He said he has owned it for 8 years too and has maintained it properly and it shows too.
I also found out why he didn't replace the gearbox himself, the back of the car is caved in! Still, that makes no odds to me.
I paid £80 for the whole car and he is arranging delivery on a flat bed too!
Let the graft commence

I am very relieved. The bloke said if i need any advice, just ring him up and he will help out.
He also went through some tips to doing it as well.
he ran through all the things that are renowned for going on them (most of which have been done on it recently) so i know what to keep.
Plus he gave me a number of a bloke that will give me £50 scrap for the remains once i have taken out the engine and whatever else i need.
Hopefully this will be far easier to sort than trying to fix my engine which would cost more in parts alone to do and then i still don't know if it's going to last.
He said rear wheel bearings are common to go on them and that they are part of the disc costing £70 and included in the deal is 2 pairs of rear discs in the boot plus the ones on the car which were done recently.
My MOT has one advisory on it which is one of the front shocks is leaking so i will swap that over while i have the chance.
Plus i need a front fog light which this one has too.

Ben,
whip the head off your current engine, fill the chambers with petrol and see if the valves are seating.
Repairing this will be much easier than swapping an engine.

I know it would but it will be alot more expensive.
I will need at least HG, head bolts, cam belt, AUX belt, oil, oil filter, probably valves plus the turbo is a bit dicky. Rough cost would be £250 and that's assuming i don't need any bottom end work.
Once i have scrapped the donor shell and sold my good injectors, the engine will owe nothing, infact i will be in the green
Unfortunately, time i have, money i don't.
I really wanted to get to the bottom of this problem but i just don't have the patience anymore, i just want it on the road before the 106 gives up
