Ben, there's so many people watching this now, failure isn't really acceptable.
No pressure! (Except fuel pressure )

The only issue is, if it's not an electrical problem it's a compression issue and unless the head is coming off this story ends

I don't mind the head coming off but i can't really spend much more money on it unless it's going to guarantee a fix..

Failure is always an option!!!
I genuinely hope this works out for you, but don't be afraid to cut your losses and run!!

I too think you are close to the fault.
I had a Scenic once and they are a good car when working ! But I would have happily killed it with fire !!
Hope you get it sorted

I would love it to be electrical / quick fix
but it don't explain the inlet noise / chugging
I think it's losing compression - if only there was an easy way to test compression
disconnect all injectors (wiring) , turn it over on starter , can you hear compression on all cylinders
or a raise in speed on one cyl ?
or can you hear air escaping from one of the cylinders ?
hope I'm wrong - cause you've had crap luck lately , & need a break

I suspect it is chugging because it is only running on 3 cylinders.
Ill try these things you have listed if i get chance to work on it tomorrow.

This is bugging me too.......... Diesles are not as over complicated ( to a degree ) as petrol engines. Im not up to speed that much on newer oil burners but did use to work on comercials and perkins diesels a long time ago. With regards to the chugging, I really do not know what to suggest until you can get all 4 injectors working. If you know that the inector is working ( as you have swapped it into a working cyl ) then the only reason why it isnt firing HAS to be electrical IMO.......
Hopefully if you can get the injector firing, it may help to see why the vehicel is chugging/chuffing. Hell, it may even run smooth !!!
Keep us posted.
Cheers

Is fuel getting to the injector?

Is fuel getting to the injector?
It's getting to the union, and returning through the return pipe
