To learned TMF Mini ICE'ers.

Please excuse my ignorance, but is there anyway of having an incar stereo that has no 'normal' head unit and could power 4 speakers in the car? Does such thing as a 12v Pre/Power amp with line in's exist?

I'm not bothered with CD's or radio, just be nice to have option of tunes from iPod touch/iPhone occasionally.

Cheers.

G.

Not sure if there is anything specific without looking on tinterweb but This idea "may" work. You could wire up a small amp ( 4 channel if your going to run 4 speakers ) with a manual on/off switch. To connect the ipod to it, you would need a decent lead that at one end connects to your ipod ( 3.5mm i think , ) and at the other end connects to the amp via RCA leads ( red and white ). Mount the amp out of site, say in the boot and run the rca lead from the amp to your preferred point in the front of your vehicle for the ipod.

I have never tried this method as I use a head unit to connect an ipod. I do however, use this method at  to connect my Ipad to my studio gear at home, which also has my synths and guitar going through the amp as well.

Cheers

Thats exactly the way I've seen it done - 4 channel amps start at just over £50 new on fleebay and much less secondhand ...you will just need a stereo 3.5MM to stereo phono (L and R) lead and job done.

I've got a 3.5mm to stereo phono - So 12v amps exist off fleabay? Any links would be greatly appreciated.

Go to any halfords and have a browse to get an idea of what you want. Then look on fleabay for a cheaper item if needed.

Just remember not to get a "Sub " amp. You would need a normal 4 channel amp. If i wasnt at work i would google it for you.

If low power output is not an issue why not just get a secondhand cheap iPod ready headunit and mount it under the rear seats or drivers seat. That way you will get proper link via USB and the iPod will charge as your using it.
The iPod can be mounted on the dash with a long USB cable.

It runs on it's own battery as it's rechargeable but you can get a 12v charger for it. They also do 1 that hasn't got a battery that you could run off the car battery . The Bose sound is great

The charger puts out 20v but I got an adaptor off eBay USA or maplins probably do 1.

My dad has something similar to this, he uses his iPod in an old suitcase.
It's battery powered but would be the same principal. It's just connected to an amp which is then linked to speakers.

Would look quite neat really, especially if you didn't use the aux socket and you used a Bluetooth receiver instead.
