I don't think this thread was ever meant to offend anyone.

alot of the negative replies on here have had to do with the cars mentioned that look un-drivable or are unfit for purpose.

I personally cannot see the point in some of the suspension mods that make the wheels tip right over. It just doesn't interest me. I may have joined in with a bit of banter in this thread but nothing serious. It's just lighthearted as far as i can see.

We all like what we like and that's that. Only thing is, you tend to get a group that leans toward one thing and another that leans the other way and that usually causes conflict.

There really isn't any point in arguing the toss about it because not everyone is ever going to agree.

I just can't see the point getting hot under the collar about it.

Chris, you know i love your car, i think that it sits perfectly and chop, well that goes without saying. If your back wheels sat on their sides and the body work was all shreaded where it rubs, i probably wouldn't like it and i would say so but by no means would i deliberately insult you about it because it's your car and i can appreciate what work has gone into creating it.

I can't see the point in all falling out over a conflict that may never be resolved.

That is all i wanted to say.

Ben

i know mate, i wasnt aiming this at you. i dont want to come off as a miserable bastard with no sense of humour, but as i said above, it really does get tiring seeing the same thing come up again and again. it always seems to the the same people fuelling it too.

i tend to try to keep my mouth shut, obviously because im quite involved in the 'scene', but sometimes it can actually be quite hurtful having your personal tastes mocked by people repeatedly. again, this only seems to happen in the mini scene which is a real shame.

i just feel that the purists have got their priorities wrong. if they were true mini enthusiasts, then all they would care about is that one more mini has been saved form the scrapheap and been put back on the road by someone, regardless of how the owner has chosen to do this.

The thing I love about Chop is the fact it looks so wide. I don't know if it's because the roof is bigger, or if it's just an illusion.

The purists probably don't like it, but from a bodywork point of view it is very well executed

Just to please the purists..... I do own a restored mini as well :P

didnt mean to go off on one at only you mate, it was more aimed at the people who WERE generalising and pointlessly slating earlier on in this thread.

I wasn't planning on posting in here again but, another angle all you Purist anti-lowering campaignists overlook is, that the younger generation, although we have different tastes to you guys...DON'T go around saying "Oh that mk1 is stupid, it should be slammed" so what gives you guys the right to slate our cars!? Instead we actually respect the fact that, you've managed to restore them in most cases back to original specs, in order to keep them on the road for years to come!! It's a two-way street this whole scene, as generation gaps are a big part of classics these days...

Lets all remember why we're here, we ARE Mini enthusiasts at the end of the day, so lets not hate, lets participate.

well said man, the older members need to realise and accept that if they want the younger generations keep the mini scene alive then they will want to put their own spin on it and make it their own, not just do what has already been done

Ummm, it's not just young people that agree with you, nor is it just old people that are criticising.

I'm an old git (iI'm so old that I'm retired  ) and I don't think there's anything wrong with people doing what the Hell they want with their own car (as long as it's legal and safe, obviously).

Me too Matt..... I fit into the over-40s category (quite away into it ;D ) so it's definitely not a young / old divide :D

There are exceptions to the rule, like you two fine gentlemen above, but what myself and Chris are trying to say is that for the most part it is the older generation who scorn lowering and the such...it's maybe a little too difficult to explain on the internet but generalising isn't what I was trying to do...if anything the postivie we can take from this is that there are mature owners out there who are respectful to the different tastes.
