While we are it, can you believe the cheek of this guy making his mustang this low, those skinny tyres on the front will make it handle terribly!

Just to balance this out a bit..

Why bother making a car go faster, handle better, corner faster etc.. When you can only drive at 70mph on the road anyway..

The vw scene in very laid back relaxed and good fun.. There are parts of the scene that are into performance, but many of those who I've met are still chilled out not boy racers..

The mini scene could learn a lot from the VW's the shows are many many times bigger there is a lot of variety in the scene too..

AMEN!

Jesus Christ I've never known grown men to ******* about something they don't like as much as the mini scene does. When you go to a vw show there is tonnes of variety, and not all is to everyone's taste...but nobody cares. It's so chilled out and not all the lowered cars are owned by boy racers like all the old men on here think.
You don't need to have the best performing handling car on the road to use the roads, you automatically assume that people don't know they don't have optimised performance, who cares of you can't go round a roundabout full throttle? You shouldn't be driving like that in the first place.

I don't bother going to mini shows because in all honesty, if I see one more red and white mini with chrome **** that you get for a few quid at any show bolts to it I'm going to throw up. The mini scene could learn so much from the vw scene, even if it teaches you nothing on being an individual yourself, then at least teach you to respect that people like something different to you without winging like grumpy old men

Here's my golf and my mini, I will continue to drive it even after I'm over being bounced around, just to piss you off when you see me having more fun than you

Good on you I say (and that's from an 43 year whinging grumpy old man that should know better ;D )

Why conform? Do what you want, I say. Keep up the good work :highfive:

I actually think a lot of the people that are criticising other scenes should go to a few more shows.

Retro Rides Gathering is THE most chilled show I go to.  No attitude, no criticism of other people's taste, everyone's just an enthusiast for old metal/

At the end of the day, beauty IS in the eye of the beholder.   But I just find it odd that people feel so happy to slate someone else's personal taste.  As I said earlier, it starts with slating their cars because they're different...where does it stop?

I'm not into slammed and stanced cars and I'm not going to pretend for one minute that I would do it to one of my cars.  But that's just my choice.

I think the key issue people have with slammed (I hate that term) cars is a complete lack of understanding of why anyone would spend time, money and effort just to make a car worse that it was originally. I have to include myself in this. But my personal gripe is that the sort of people in the VW scene who have done this are the ones with exactly the sort of attitudes you are complaining about, THEY are the ones at shows slagging off people's cars for stock height etc. it is far from a one way street. And from someone who used to love old VWs (except for beetles obviously, they are hateful things) I have to say that it has totally ruined the shows, especially with Buses, as I said before now it's all rich guys with no interest in the bus buying it, 'slamming' it, sticking a surf board on top, wearing a beanie and acting all scene. Really sad.

Was talking to my mate yesterday as he's had all sorted, most of his cars were lowered a fair bit, but he's gone Jap now and bought a sweet little Stock Glanza. He blames slammed on the prat look boys because apparently they're the ones that started off the VWs sitting super low.

Talking of prat looks, I think they're dying out slowly (good). Don't see many around now, well not like you used to anyway! Scrap man probably took them because they looked like, well, erm, scrap... (I will stop there on prat look. Was going to put something else, but I better not :P)

I just remembered, I was parked up yesterday (down a road with a mini roundabout at the top of it) anyway, was looking down at my phone and all I hear is a load of scraping! Look up and it was a slammed newer red Golf having a bit of trouble :P Wish I had my dash cam running

I'm glad I read all the way to the end of this thread. The first part had me worried, it's surprising how quickly people can stereotype certain car owners or enthusiasts and ridicule them for their personal choices. I respect your opinions and many of them have valid points when considering performance and drivability but this simply isn't why dub owners do it and even if it was they can do what they want.

My dad has slammed his 66 split screen van and my brother's 66 bug sits on air ride, both drive better than they did when at stock (less body roll, still comfortable) and look amazing.

maaaaan some of the comments in this thread almost make me want to stick my mini on ebay and leave the scene completely. its already been mentioned but the mini scene really is full of people who think that if its not been done their way then its wrong and the driver is an idiot. in fact its probably the most judgemental 'scene' out there. makes me sick.

what happened to... you know... being a car enthusiast?

i went to a local show today which didnt have any guidelines on what was allowed in. so it was pretty broad.... i saw everything from austin 7s/sprites/healys/imps, to detriot muscle cars, to ferraris and Lamborghinis.... and yes, there was a good helping of stanced golfs/boras/passats/civics/etc aswell....     and guess what? i loved every single one there, because no matter what the owner had chosen to do to it (if anything), it had been done with care and attention. and before im called 'uncultured' or something similar, i can appreciate a beautifully restored, international spec, 100hp, historic rally mini with s/c gears just as much as the next person...

so after reading through this thread, a bit of my faith has been restored as there are indeed a few open minded people out there. but to the rest who have nothing better to do than slate a car and its owner simply because its not to their taste, how livid will you be that another precious mini is going to be slammed onto its arse with wide wheels and spacers? becuse thats exactly how mine will be once it goes back on the road. laugh away.

rant over, i needed that.......

But you have to lower a VW Bora or they handle like a boat

Some of them tend to smoke a bit on boost too

Bravo!

That's a least 2 rants on here. Makes you feel better doesn't it Chris? I know I felt better....

Although I feel the draw across to the 'rod and custom scene is strong........

Good innovating stuff, but with more than a nod to the old skool.

*runs to the garage to see what I can cut up to make a real car.......*

For 'real' car, read 'something a little more individual that'll divide opinions, 'because after all, it's my car and more importantly, this is supposed to be fun!'
