40 teeth. divided by 360 equals 9 degrees per tooth. Or does it??

I want to set my timing a few degrees advanced as per many experts advise.
Got a supercharged 1275 running a relatively mild-ish cam! On a 112lca which I'd already timed straight up but advised to go advanced.

So I'd already done so with an offset key but to get what I want can do so buy going an extra tooth round on the cam gear an popping a straight key back in. But this is where the title question comes in!

I became confused when reading out of the Minispares catalogue. The offset key section actually says that by moving round one tooth is equivalent to 13 degrees??? But that doesn't make sense so what am I missing??

Help please required as I want to do it this week if poss.

Thanks in advance people,

All the best

yes 40 teeth divided into 360 deg = 9deg per tooth. But are you refering to camshaft angle or crank angle? As the cam turns at half crank speed then one tooth on the cam gear at 40 teeth sould be 18 deg of crankshaft angle. You may be better off with vernier gears.
