Cool little car, remember a road test between those and an MPI Cooper when they were launched.

Personally though Id be much more interested in that Disco seen lurking in the 1st picture. I see its on the same 18" wheels as mine which is an '04 Landmark. A superb motor that Ive owned for nearly 8 years now.

Yup, it's an '04 Landmark, really is a superb car. Just as happy on a 200 mile journey to get Mini bits as it is on the rough suff.

This was it when we first got it, it's a bit different now though.

Here's mine,

Nice, cool registration too, is it yours or on it previously?

No it's not ours, I can imagine it's quite an expensive reg.

Well the welding is done and I had planned on getting it MOTd tomorrow, however, my alternator has just decided it doesn't want to charge the battery anymore and is making a horrible noise, so it won't even make it down the drive, let alone to an MOT station.

Why did I buy an Italian car?

Fix It Again Tomorrow

Forget It And Taxi

I can probably think of other things FIAT stands for, but I'm not sure it'll get through the swear filter

Ferrari In Affordable Trim!

I had one of these, bought it for £80 with a bit of tax and mot, only bought it for giggles, it had character, shame it's now been demoralised in becoming a farm car (me and a few friends have a night every now and then, where we have a BBQ and a few beers then race cars around some fields on a friends grandads farm) it's still going strong!

Being a Fiat, an alternator replacement is going to be a faff as well.

They are good cars when they are working, they're just a laugh really. It's not a car you buy with a serious mindset.

I drove a couple of Micras when looking at different cars, and they just lack the 'spark' and have no character.

Well the car almost caught fire today. It turns out 7k RPM with an alternator that doesn't turn isn't good for the belt. I cut the belt off and ran it and it sounded perfect, so a new alternator will arrive tomorrow, MOT is rebooked for Friday, so hopefully I can finally give the Mini some time.

That's where the rev limiter is  :D It's fun, but sometimes a bit of torque would be nice.

Well on Monday on the way home from college the head gasket decided it didn't want to seal anything anymore. The temperature went up to about 130 and there was smoke and steam coming out of just about everywhere.

Got a tow home and changed the HG today in the torrential rain, easy enough really. Did the cam belt as well while it was all apart.

It now idles beautifully and any problems that I've felt with it are now gone. It'll probably fail in a few thousand miles time, but at least it'll only cost £10 for a gasket and an afternoon.

All in cost about £65. Italian cars do go wrong more, but when they do, it's so much cheaper than anything else to fix.
