thanks mate! yeah i attacked it with a belt sander, then a couple coats of primer before a couple coats of black

Where did you get them grilles from? They look the nuts!!!!
They're referred to as moustache grilles, or MK1 grilles. They are available from minispares and other mini parts retailers.
From what i understand Morris minis had 7 slats, Austin minis had 11.

Custom made, 6mm ABS plastic, with stainless mesh sat behind then painted black.
MDF templates made, then placed the plastic on top and shaped with a router.
