I need to bend 3mm plate, no more than 100mm wide, to form some engine mount brackets, whats the best way of going about it?

I've seen this at Machine Mart: http://www.machinema...et-metal-folder

It says it can bend a max of 0.71mm but I wont be bending a full 2ft sheet, just a 100mm strip.

Has anyone got one? Do you think it will handle it?

I could just clamp the plate onto some bar and hammer it around the bend but I'm not sure how neatly it would come out.

You'll destroy that folder with 3MM steel. I would find a fabrication company with a press brake and have them do it.

As Tupers has said no way will a vice mounted bench folder fold 3mm steel plate. You could heat it up and form it that way but a bit of a pain in the backside.

Could cut a grove along the one side bend the plate then weld up the groove. I've done this effectively with checker plate as well without
The welding part

I need to make a couple of U shapes, so I could just cut 3 separate pieces and weld them together I just thought bending it would look nicer and be less effort. Sounds like cutting and welding is the way to go then
