evening all!

so after fitting my stage one a few weekends ago a friend of mine said that i should look at getting some twin carbs. i remembered reading that with a 998 it wont really make any difference to power but may give better response on the throttle so dismissed the idea until i saw some photos on here and thought they look awesome in the engine bay.

so off onto ebay i go and stick a cheeky bid on a twin hs2 setup for £40. somehow i won and received then on Thursday last week. they were pretty grubby but seemed in working order with my limited knowledge.

so i took one side apart, i figured i could use the one id left in tact to help me putting the other back together then just swap over to the other one. very dirty job, glad i put the paper down in my room first.

dashpot before:

dashpot after going over it with autosol twice, didnt want it mirror polished but nice and shiny is always good.

did the same to the float chamber and am pleased with the results

after seeing pictures on here of various parts of the carb having been painted i decided to try it, slightly unusual color, but its the same color my engine block will be when i get round to taking it out and cleaning it properly. so last two are of the two halves of the twin setup, one pretty much finished and the other not been started yet:

You cleaned them up well!

However the carbs you bought aren't HS2's, they are HS4's which will most likely be too big for your engine being a 998.

I tried doing this when I was a lad. polishing the dashpot using a buffing wheel mounted in a drill, whilst I had the dashpot held with a finger on each hand in either end of the central tube so that it could rotate. great idea until it spun so quick it burnt the skin on my finger then as I released my grip it flew over my shoulder and landed on the bonnet of my dads allegro

That's really made me smile, I can just picture the scene! Thanks.

Twin carb... *drools slightly* No. Bad. Just get the engine going before you muck around with bolt-on performance. *slaps self in face*
