No. You only need to set the gaps and the noise will be gone ( if nothing is badly worn or broken, but that's normally not the case).

Ok. How do you adjust to get the gains?
There is no way to gain the losses back in my opinion, if i were you, id adjust the tappets (i cant remember the figure) the car will be alot quieter!

Just to confirm - you are getting oil up there ( it won't be gallons , but you should see flow)
as above , check the fingers of the rockers arn't worn too much (opposite end to the ball),
as they will affect the gap when you measure with a feller gauge
(appologies for the spellin - spell check has run orf with tha antivirus again)
red is the feeler , black is the real gap

Ok will try that first cheers. But say I wanted to upgrade to some aluminium roller rockers 1.5 ratio would there be anything else to change and would they be compatible?
Thanks
Get 1.3 ratio rockers. 1.5 rockers will give more bhp, but only at the top end & will lose bhp and torque at the bottom end ;)

You said the tappets are noisy 'under load'. Now tappets are either noisy or they are not. They can't become more noisy as the load on the engine increases. They might seem noisier as the revs increase, but not as the engine load increase.
If there is a metallic noise when the engine load is increased it might be 'pinking', which means too much ignition advance. If so, this needs to be rectified immediately.
