I rang up heritage motor centre today regarding a full package for my 1275gt so the certificate, technical sheet and a dating letter. But they said I'm unable to get a certificate for if as it is a later vehicle has anyone else had this problem?
Has anyone got one for a mini 1979 onwards?

Hello Alex, I purchased a heritage certificate back last year in September, it was lacking some of the information I needed so I contacted Richard Bacchus (Heritage Certificate Officer). He responded with a very educational email so it might help if I share it on here.

Thank you for your email. I'm afraid there is no way of confirming the original colour, as it simply wasn't recorded. To explain what was going on at the time, the mark I Mini records are all in hand written ledgers, with lots of information recorded for each car. In the late 1960s and into the 1970s, Longbridge started to computerise their build records. At that time computer memory was incredibly expensive, so the information recorded was dramatically reduced to the car's basic details. It is often the case with alot of the vehicle build records that you really get the impression that when they were created, they were done so with the attitude 'who is ever going to want to look at these again!' And this is particularly accute with Longbridge records of the 1970s. It is also probably indicative of the state of the company at the time, which was riven by industrial disputes and in a state of some turmoil.

And I'm afraid the records which are held here are the only records to have survived.

Sorry I had to copy and paste my email it would take me ages to write it all myself!! But what seems to be the case is the later the cars the less information they seem to have recorded as the people making them clearly didn't think anyone would look at them again. If only they knew now and hope this helps  :-)

Q. Why can you not produce Heritage Certificates for Minis built after 1969?
A. After 1969 the factory stopped recording any real information, just a chassis number and a build date. The only document we can produce for post 1969 Minis is a 'Confirmation of Build Date' letter.

The site lists ADO 20 minis from 77-81

Don't think you get much more than a 'Confirmation of Build Date' certificate for post 1969?

I have 3 basic Heritage certificates and one of them is for my 81 pickup,

It lacks the engine and body numbers as well as the date of dispatch but it has information for each of the other categories listed on the certificate,

Such as -

Chassis number

spec

colour

trim

body

date of build

destination (dealer)

details of factory fitted equipment

other info (town to issue reg number)
