would it be possible to do this kind of work to a road going car? i.e remove the rear seat, alloy boot floor, but instead of a 1 gallon tank under the wing, a van tank in the boot, but with alloy firewall incase of an accident? or would removing the rear seat make it unsafe for road use? im thinking of doing this on my next project, but didnt want to start hacking out the rear seat back to find its not allowed...

any advise on what would be allowed/not allowed in a road car?

cheers

lewis

i love the removed rear seat but how much rigidity does it remove if it were to be used on the road. and if a full 6 point cage was to be added would it compensate egnough for the removal

thanks

This has been brought back from a land far away!!

The colour is Kawazaki green but I doun't have a paint code for it as my painter friend sorted it out.

I would think the modifications to the rear end would be frowned upon come MoT time for a road car. The rear bulkhead and parcel shelf play important roles in stiffening the shell. Having said that, after 2+ years of competition use there are no signs of excessive flexing, no cracking of the paint etc, but it doesn't hit pot holes and other road defects that a road car does.

if i ran a brace (of maybe 2"x1" box) where the top of the rear seat goes, and alloy panel the parcel shelf and the rear seat back, making an alloy bulkhead, would it be possible to make a flat alloy boot floor like you have done, thus adding strength back into the shell? want to try make my mini as light but retain strength at the same time.

Yep, still doing it and the car is going strong. Done a little less over the last couple of years as I've done more classic rallying, but autotesting is a good, cheap fun motorsport that needs little prep and planning.

It was me that replied to your thread on SMF (I'm T7GRC on there). Feel free to PM me on either forum if you need to know anything.

definatly looks awsome i was at castle coombe last weekend saw the them auto testing there the whole reason i wanted my first mini (at 14)was to auto test alltho getting them around when your only 15 is a bit of a pain its been 11 or so year since i sold my two minis and now i have another one :D gone to town on it a little stripped sand blasted and just doing repairs any way my question is are there any clutch modifications to allow for the quicker gear changes also can you give me an example build i can see that coilovers are a must and light weight but do you need hydrolic hand brake many thanks any info would be great
