Engine is in and the sump is 1.5" off the ground - try it against your cars, I can just fit two fingers between the sump and the ground :w00t: The wheel arches are cut, although not by as much as I was expecting, and then the plastic arches fixed on to suit.
Rear needs to be lower yet, no cutting at that end and the scientific measurement is to get 3 fingers between arch and wheel.

You wouldn't believe there is a shiny stainless steel mesh griile in those pics would you!!?? That's probably why it looks like there is no engine.

There's not that much more to go on it now but I only have two weeks to finish it if I'm to meet my target. Can't wait to have everything painted though! The panels were taken away last night so should have them back by the end of the week.

Well the engine is now in and all the ancilliaries fitted. As you may have read in the Technical section it isn't quite running to plan though! The wiring will be tidied once I know it's running right.

Also done a few smaller bits such as fitting KAD lower steadies, oil/water guage, remote oil filter, fuel tank etc

All the panels are back and looking very green, not goint to fit them until last so they don't get marked or damaged though.

Well it made it! Not bad for less than 4 months work ,eh? :-

Not really too much the pictures don't say though, so here they are!!

Polished up and ready for the off:
Posted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image

Out in the sun at the show (what a glorious day it was too!!). The one next to it is known as a 'special' and has even less left than mine - I told him it rains in the UK :w00t:

And a couple of the engine install:

There are still a few niggles to sort before its ready for its first competitive run ie an oil leak and a collapsed suspension cone (brand new - damned cheap copies > )

Not sure when its first outing is yet as I have been 'instructed' that I have to concentrate on finishing the house next :) But once its been out I'll update the topic with some action photos.

15" clubman steering wheel is the weapon of choice. Anythng smaller and its just too difficult to throw it from lock to lock quickly.

There were a few hiccups prior to its competitive debut, replaced the o ring in the output shaft cover, swapped the suspension cones round (got some of those dodgy cheap ones - gonna have to invest in some real ones but not sure i want 'new' ones) and stripped the cylinder head off to replace the headgasket in an evening. Next day got the head skimmed, all rebuilt, brakes bled, tracking done and car washed an polished and on a trailer by lunchtime ;D !

Actually having now had its first run out it looks like power steering is on the cards soon. Being so low the steering is increadibly heavy, I can make it lighter by increasing the caster but that will reduce its effectivness at turning in quickly.

Other teething troubles to iron out are far too much braking on the rear (can spin the car on the foot brake!), needs a secondary electric fan to cool the engine better when 'queing' and I need to replace a front arch that had an arguement with a cone :- .

So the first event didn't go too well, I was well down the order but I haven't done if for over 9 months and the car was very different to the old one! Times were gradually getting faster though so it looks positive. Hell did I have achey arms, legs and ribs when I'd finished though!

Next even is my local one on 22 October, hopefully have more updates and some 'in action' pics after that.
