This thread won't set the ICE world alight, but I am posting this mostly by way of a massive thank you to Ruckus for all his help and advice.

The aim is to get some quality sound in the van, but at the same time keep it discreet and if possible leave the rear free for all the camping gear!

So far I have a set of Genesis components, a Genesis profile 2 amp, and some Optimise Automotive speaker pods.

My taste in music is mostly rock (think AC/DC) so time will tell if I add a base unit.

A couple of hours of fiddling today saw the stereo installed (cheap eBay kenwood head unit for now) and the speaker pods mounted.

My mate who did all the welding and rebuild had the foresight to fit an earth point and some permanent and switched live points on a fuse box in the inner wing.

Next job is to get a wiring kit later this week, and find somewhere to place the amp, as space under either seat is limited.

That's a very similar setup to mine. I have the same speakers & amp but am using an old Alpine head unit. I'm also fitting a small Alpine sub under the passenger seat.

Great. Just need to try mine running cd quality rather than mo3 before deciding if I want a 4v per out head unit.

How are you running the amp? Mine is a 2 channel amp.

I'm no expert on this but I have bridged the amp to run just the front speakers. I have been advised not to fit speakers in the back. I can get some pics up if you want.

Bridging gives you a mono signal, the front speakers need to be Stereo...

Might want to rethink that setup. :)

Looking at this pic, and having read up on it a bit, I don't think the amp is bridged

Hi Mike, the sub has it's own amp and controller. It's just a case of power and 2 phono's from the head unit. There are better subs but this one is light and fits out of the way.

Not now, I wired the fronts up bridged by accident but have swapped the speaker cables over for stereo.

Thanks for your help

Pete

Apologies for the dim question but what does "2 phonos from the head unit" mean? If I recall correctly my head unit has the 2 jacks being used to feed the amp so the only spare connections are the speaker wires?

A lot of head units have more then one set of RCA's.

Front full range, Rear full range, subwoofer is normal.

Some highend units have each frequency range as an output. High, mid, mid woofer and sub...

Did you build the front speaker pods yourself? And how big are the speakers?
