I've been trying to track down a small problem that I've had since I got my 1992 SPi. Some times at idle or low throttle, if I press the throttle to accellerate, I lose all power. If I back off the throttle and try again, it will usually be fine.
Or some times I come to a stop and the engine dies all together, and has difficulty restarting, but will after a few seconds. Since I didn't know the various state of parts, I replaced quite a few things so I know the state of the various parts. I replaced the fuel filter, coil, plug wires, spark plugs, radiator (didn't work very well), water temperature sensor, vacuum lines and fuel trap (with elbows), fuse panel, reset valve cleanances.
I've also reset the throttle position index. I haven't replaced the O2 sensor yet as it appears fused to the exhaust manifold. I'm starting to think that either the throttle potentiometer is not working properly or the intake air flapper is sticking inside the throttle body.
Anyone else have some ideas on what I can check? Otherwise the engine runs perfectly and pulls nicely through the gears (if the above problem doesn't crop up).
Thanks,
JT

Sounds like either the Oxygen sensor or the throttle pot if everything else is new, may also need the idle air stepper tuning with a service tool.
Have you checked that the oxy sensor heater relay is working correctly?

You need a special tool to do the air stepper tuning? Might be rather difficult to find here is the US. What's involved with this tool?
As for the latter, I didn't know about the O2 sensor heater relay. Where might I find that and what should I do to verify it's operating properly. I'll see if I can locate some of this stuff in my manual for more reading.
Thanks for the info.
Cheers,
JT
