Originally they have 3M trim tape on which absolutely does not come off in the heat, if you fix it properly. They have quite thick trim tape at Halfords. Try again with that, it's the right thing to use. The panel must be absolutely clean, wiped with a residue free solvent like meths, and warm. And you must keep pressure on it for 30 seconds to maybe a couple of minutes, it will say on the pack.

I'll second 3m double sided tape. I use it at work to stick tail pads on surfboards and it's really good stuff.

Take a look for Go Pro 3m VHB tape, it's unbelievable!! crashed my Gixer 1000 and the camera mount never came off even though the housing bracket snapped!!

Silicone causes paint reactions while painting, not when the paint is properly cured. It's also almost impossible to get rid of entirely, so if you ever need to re spray there may be an issue.

Strong sticky stuff, there was a spate of thefts of cooper bonnet badges back in the 90's, although that was likely when they were just new, every day cars and people pilfered them to fit to their own non coopers
