Doug

By feel I did mean that it is too hot to touch. But if you say this is normal then I am not over concerned. I had thought if it was far too hot to touch then it must be far too hot in the engine and is therefore overheating.

So from what you have said I might not have to worry too much about the heat. Regardless I would like to make sure the temp gauge is working correctly and get it sorted.

Ive ordered 2 different senders now so I will try them and if they don't work I may need to stat looking at measuring the temp to determine if what you are saying is happening that the engine may feel hot but might still not be hot enough to be showing on the gauges.

Thanks for your help, hopefully Ill get it sorted soon.

Cheers

Before loosing any sleep over the engine temperature, buy or borrow a thermometer as I suggested.  Take the radiator cap off and bring the engine to normal operating temperature.  A short drive may be required.  Check the coolant temperature in the top of the radiator and compare the value you measure against what the gauge shows based on the rough equivalents I listed in my last post.  Don't worry about changing the sending unit until you know what the engine temp normally is.

Doug

Sorted it. Turns out I needed an earlier sender unit. screwed it in and works fine. Running temp is fine also, not overheating.

Thanks for the help
