Hey guys i have a 78' 1275,

And my hose between the crank house breather and the Y connector to the Carb and Clutch breather has worn out n split on me today

i have ordered a new hose but in the meantime should i be driving it?

Also i have seen a few engines with a tiny air filter on the breather, could i just replace all hoses with two filters on each breather (what size 12mm or 15mm?) ?

if not what is the purpose of them like whats it let breath and what does the hoses do to the carb?

Many Thanks

The breathers reduce crankcase/ gearbox pressure build up.. By conectone them to the carb, the engine burns any oil which is expelled by the engine

If you are driving it, I would say tape up the split pipe, or block off the breather pipe on the carb. But definitely do plumb them in.

When i say split i mean completely snapped and it sits on the manifold inlet so im worried tape it up with the heat, so untill the new pipe comes your saying block/take off the hose to the carb?

My pipe had split where yours split too.

I just spliced the two ends back together with a piece of copper pipe we had lying around, hose clamp either end.  Been fine ever since sitting down in that gap between manifold and rocker cover.
