A sneaky peaky shot of todays efforts...

Quick coat of red, another quick coat in the morning should allow me to get the engine and subframe reinstalled so I can move it outside to paint the body. The ground is too dry, so the castor wheels just sink when I roll it onto the grass.

Rear subframe is also painted, just need to put on the new braided flexi hoses, clean up backing plates and drums and put new shoes on.

big step forward today. Got the rear subframe back on the car, then moved onto the front subframe. Steering rack back in then dropped body onto the subframe. Thankfully it wasnt too hard to do by myself.

Pushed it outside into the yard and gave it a quick blow down and degreased. One coat of high build primer on and looking good. A few small imperfections in areas, some filler that isnt 100% blended in, but otherwise its looking good.

Nice big bugle in this tyre. Its pretty hard to push around now, think theres a brake shoe dragging.

Tomorrow will be a case of going round sorting any imperfections, then I'll try and get the doors bonnet and boot sorted and in primer too.

I noticed some water coming through the gun, wasnt using a water trap at the start but has installed one now. I always empty the tank after each days use, but decided to roll it back and forth to see if anymore came out, and oh boy did it come out. Almost a cup full. Rusty red water! Hopefully the water trap will prevent any getting to the gun.

with the water trap, run a decent length of hose to allow the warm air to cool down so the moisture condenses before coming out the gun.

so you have compressor with warm moist air, but due to the heat the moisture isn't in droplets. then a length of hose (I use my 15m retractable hose) to allow the air to cool down and the moisture to condense, and then a water trap. Then the gun.

When doing top coat, put a disposable particulate filter right before the gun.

Also helps to have a water trap @ the compressor as well.

Compressor with water trap -> long hose -> good quality water trap -> gun.

you can see my large water trap on the far right of this pic. Even then it's not the ideal set up. You would ideally use copper pipe with vertical fall out sections and drain taps etc...

Update on this mornings efforts.

Rolled car outside into the yard again and got stuck into fixing the filler pitting. Was starting to warm up but thankfully there is alot of cloud cover, so at least its shady.

Made a start on getting the garden gazebo/paint booth erected. It was a harded job putting the frame together by myself than yesterdays job of putting the engine in by myself. Eventually got it up and the roof on. Lets hope theres no storms for the next few days.

had a bit of a disaster today, spend a few hours rubbing down the primer then decided to shoot some red. Was pretty hot at the time, seemed to be going on okay, but then dried pretty badly. Pulled the pin on it and have decided to let a pro do it. At least that way its done right and wont look a shambles. Hes gonna sort out all the dents in the doors and boot, fix the large dent in the bonnet. Pretty reasonable price, should have just gone there in the first place.

Back to cleaning parts, started on the gear lever housing. Gunked up with stones, dirt and grease.

Also painted up the rest of the brackets and the inlet manifold. All looking nice and clean.

Cant wait to get the car back all painted up, ready to put stuff back in.

Big clean up of all tools and yard tomorrow.

Regardless of the finish, I think the colour choice is excellent  =] Subtle change in signature I see.

You'll be fine as long as you have more patience than me.

got a few bits and pieces cleaned up today, then tackled the master cylinders. I'm not really sure if these are the right ones that should be in the car. They look identical, the plunger in both is .700".

I had bought the clutch MC rebuild kit off minispares, but this is too big to fit either of these.

Any ideas people?

i was going to run some kits through mine but it's easier to buy the new cheap ones if you don't mind them looking a bit different to the older style.
