http://www.ebay.co.u...s-/320658509405 then again? Nothing is simple is it? Whos right whos wrong?!

USA spec models, certainly in some states, have a direct monitoring system that has sensors on the valves, not in the UK though. There are no monitors on the rim either. The only difference between a normal rim and a runflat rim is that the runflat rim has an additional "hump" which keeps the tyre on the rim when deflated. It's this hump that means that you can fit normal tyres to runflat rims, but can't fit runflat tyres to normal rims.

Im waiting to remove my runflats, horrible anyway, plus its a chili, plus they are winter spec!

I was the sales manager at ATS and saw the sensor behind the valve system. seems not all cars use that system then ;D

Not on a mini here and not on an R50, Was it a regular bmw wheel rather than a Mini you saw?

Could the wheel just be fitted with the sensors regardless but not needed in the UK?

I made the assumption of the wheels sensors, as i had to have mine replaced and reset om my e91.  Figured bmw and all that, might be the same.  Anyways, always good to learn something new!

I was aware other cars have them, but not minis, I thought you were saying you saw them on an R50 or even a later Mini?

Personally I was under the impression that early MINIs did use the sensor valves but the system was changed to a computational one within the first 5 or 6 years because of all the valves that were being thrown away by tyre fitters causing so many problems for owners.

Neither of my R50s had sensors on the tyres, the tyre warning system works off the ABS sensors. The system was changed in 2002 slightly and was linked into the traction control system as well.

It's a pain if you have an early car because the control module for the run flats is very expensive (about £250), and used ones are hard to find. How do I know this, well my system went wrong and after trying a new switch I had to find a control box. Eventually I found one for £40 on Fleabay after searching for 3 months.

In all my years of owning MINIS and frequenting the forums I have never come across a car fitted with an active/direct monitoring system.

Thanks for responses.  Activating the button behind the handbrake did the trick
