Its was a type of fabric stuff which tore very easily! I haven't stuck it back on, and don't plan to.

Don't they just have that rectangle of it stuck to the middle of the roof? My boyfriends late 80's had that anyway when I took the headlining out a few weeks ago, not sure if it came from the factory like that though, there was about 4 layers of stuff on the floor so might have been added after

It's great when your parked up in the rain but makes no difference when the engine running ( it's all I hear).

Mine had a large foam pad as standard. Planning to silent coat the whole roof before putting the headliner back in.

mine has the perforated tar pads there are six of them just randomly stuck on

Sounds like Silent Coat or similar would be a good option and then maybe something else. I've not used it before, but guessing it's ok for the roof

I put silent coat on mine. 6 sheets worked well. Roof doesnt clang now, just gives a really deep and quiet thud
