didnt know where to put this, so put it in here.

my trusty siegen 150 died, so i have just bought a sealey supermig 150.

i have got it out the box and noticed the shaft that the wire spool turns on is really slim and is designed for the little 1kg (or whatever the little buggers weigh) spools.

the shaft is held in with 4 screws, can you get a replacement shaft that will allow you to use the 5kg spools? if not im going to have to get one machined up as im not going to keep changing the spool every ten minutes with those little fiddly ones!

anyone got any experience with this problem on this welder?

i hope it provides as reliable service as my siegen did, best part of 5 years being used almost every day of the week for something or other. i dunno how many cars that thing has restored.

R.I.P. siegen 150, you will be missed greatly! :(

Why not fix your old one? We got our big one fixed at a local tool place.

Anyway, most take 0.8kg or 5kg reels these days. Bigger ones take the 15kg reels.

Pretty sure the smaller welder ive got (kennedy from cromwell) is the exact same as that and it takes 5kg no problem.

i was going to fix my old welder, but i have already repaired it a few times over the last month or so and now there is something up with the PCB (a friend of mine repairs welders and he had a look at it when i couldnt work out what had happened this time) as i use it everyday for work i need a machine that is 100% reliable. its no good being 50 miles from base and it playing up. i cant grumble my old one last the best part of 5 years!

the I.D of the spool is smaller than the O.D. of the base of the spindle so it wont fit over it. also the top cap that holds the spool in is very small (only like a 10p) and obviously wont hold the spool on.

i have been out and adapted it now!

i took the spindle out and machined it down to the right O.D. to match the I.D. of the spool.

i took the big top washer from my other welder and drilled that out to fit on the new welder.

i'll take a pic if you like tomorrow to show you, there is no way that 5kg spool would fit as it was!
