I'm putting on KAD steering rack limiter bushes/washers, But having a couple of problems...

Im stuck trying to unscrew the steering ball joint end & lock nut from the threads, but I can't undo either as the whole rod turns, Any tips for how to get this off?

Hopefully i'll then be able to progress a bit further before i get stuck.

Will

Have to break the lock nut BEFORE undoing the ball joint and removing it from the track arm!

If you have already undone it then temporarily refit it !

You don't need to take them off to fit rack limiters I believe, just undo the gaiter and slip it back and the limiter slips onto the track rod under it.

But if you really do take them off...

Look at the rod end, it should have two flats accross it about 1/4" from the end. That's where you stick a spanner to hold it while you release the locknut with another spanner. The whole thing should then come off easily, but if you try to leave the locknut where it is then the tracking won't be affected too much. Wrap a lot of tape around the rod to stop the nut moving up it as you turn the rod end off.

There should be a flat on the track rod for a spanner, that should stop it turning, but as dan said, back off the locking nut first.

Ok, well i did as minislapper said and i got them off straight away, then found that Dan is right you only need to pull back the gaitor to fit these. Thanks for the help

However i've found they don't fit :D , mine are too big and don't stay in place. I'll email KAD and see what they suggest.

Here is part of the reply i got from KAD.

"If you were to cut a bit away of the plastic they will fit a smaller diameter. You wouldn't need to cut much of to reduce diameter by 1-2mm."

Probably differences between aftermarket steering racks, so KAD make the limiters for the largest diameter. Or something!

Update: I've found that they were not too big :( But that the Collar they are ment to sit on does not exist on my Rack. I'm not sure why but i can assure you it doesn't, my car is a mayfair and the rack turns 2.7 turns (well it feels like 3 but i guess its 2.7) it's probably standard but i can't be certain.

I'll draw a little pic of what i mean later on.
