i have stripped my steering rack cause it was leaking, can any one please tell me what oil i should use or would grease be better?

I use grease & had no problems

It should be EP80 gear oil.

excellent ill go get some might as well use the proper stuff. should i fill it completely or 80%

Don't fill it completely as it won't be able to flow back into the rack from the gaiters and will blow the gaiters off when you go from one lock to the other.

The workshop manual will tell you the correct volume.

What age is it? Early racks up to (I think) mk2 used gear oil and are rebuildable. Later racks use grease and are considered unserviceable. If it's a later car it's unlikely it was the rack leaking to be honest.

I'd use a high pressure grease

How early is early though?  My car is a '76, is that early enough for a rebuildable rack?

A 1962 rack requires EP80 or EP90 gear oil. I always use EP80 as EP90 gets very thick in mid-Winter.

Found it in the old mini service manual only need 1/3pint aswell :)
