looks promising!!
does the actuator fit there?
Thanks, coopdog!
Yes... It's all tight (after all, it is a Mini), but still has adequate clearance.
Interesting, you don't normally see the turbo orientated that way with the cold side on the driver's side. I guess it's due to the fitment and the routing of pipe work due to the gonzo's neck on the plenum if you don't run an intercooler. Any idea what the turbo is? I would guess it's off a diesel as it doesn't have a water cooled core.
James962,
The orientation was decided upon for a number of reasons...
- No need to modify the wastegate actuator arm.
- Better exhaust flow from the head. (As the motor is essentially an "air pump", efficient flow is key)
- Easier / cleaner routing of pipe work for intake (with or without intercooler). NOTE: We WILL be running an intercooler.
- We will be using a standard HIF44 SU carb, modified for turbo blow-thru conversion. The factory turbo carb has the throttle & choke arms oriented on the opposite side due to the plenum "gonzo" neck. (We will be designing a new plenum).
- plus a few more that I'm not able to recall..
I'm not willing to give away TOO many details at this moment... however, the turbo is basically a GT15 that was recently developed for a powerplant of our size (1300cc, but can be fitted for a range up to 1500cc). It's not from a diesel... and, most turbo's in my experience are actually not water cooled. (Not to argue... just what I've come across)
We'll keep posting updates on our Website (www.jetmotorsmini.com) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/jetmotorsmini) which is accessible to all even if you don't have a Facebook account. I'll try to keep this post updated as well.
Thank you for your interest!
