I'm an electrical inspector/tester, mainly commercial periodic hard wiring but get out on the tools a bit too when i'm lucky.

 

Can't really knock it, gets me out all over the country.

Chartered accountant.

Anyone wanting to become an accountant I'd recommend getting a trainee job with study package rather than getting a degree first. I want staff with a well balanced experience/exam success.

I worked part time at a local Motorsport specialist for about 4 months before I got into buying and selling stocks and shares, after weeks of research and help from the community I now make more than a decent wage in my spare time

Definitely something to research if you hate ruining your back and feet all day in a garage

ive just become a qualified Auto technician at an Aston Martin specialist, love working on the cars. been working on most of the high end vehicles such as Bentley, Lamborghini, Porsche, Ferrari etc. but part of me wants to do something different. I love a challenge but jobs ive been interested in E.G. precision engineering want someone with experience but how do i get that experience without getting the job?

 

always hated the saying "follow your dreams" or "if you try hard enough you can do it". i really wanted to be a mine clearance diver but just before applying i was told i was colour blind and the army doesn't need me. apparently i don't know when red turns to brown? ive done loads of wiring faults at work and plenty outside of work but i guess am "just not cut out for it"

 

am a fast learner and i always try my hardest but sometimes its "just not meant to be".

Bugger the Army, go for the Navy if you want to do some diving. You might not get the mine clearance side of things but they always need divers. The army you meet will give you stick for being in the Navy though! I only met one officer who was a diver, and he absolutely loved his job. He was in the Forces so had all the stuff that came with that, and got paid to go diving. 

 

I'm a chippy... Loving it. Year and a half into starting a business with a mate and I get up on a Monday morning as easily as a Friday morning

And that is all you need from a job!

I recently left the military after 8 years service (redundancy). I didn't enjoy my last tour and when the redundancy came up, thought it would be a great option - especially as I was getting serious with the girlfriend.

 

I now work in industrial security, basically giving advice to people at what should be common sense levels but apparently isn't. I hate it. It's dull and boring as hell even though my line manager keeps telling me that there will be more interesting stuff coming up, I don't think there will be. Four of us are all ex-Intelligence Corps, and we have an ex-Navy guy working with us as well, and 3 people with no military experience. 

 

In hindsight, I think I should have stayed in the Forces. The job was better, the lads were a great laugh, the adventure training was good, and you were paid to stay fit (not something I followed too much in the last 12-18 months though!). Even the crap wasn't all that bad.

 

However, decisions have been made and now I'm looking for a completely new career, away from Intelligence and Security work. I don't want a security clearance, I don't want people keeping tabs on part of my life (because of the clearance) and I don't want to be stuck behind a desk. 

 

I just have no idea what I do want to do - I just know I need to earn a certain amount for current commitments so doing something as an apprentice isn't really an option.

Was Mechanic for 10-15 years & run own business (all makes inc commercial)

 

went into contract car preparation / valeting / PDI work (main dealer) - Austin Rover / Peugeot / Vauxhall / Winnebago / Allegro bay / 

 

some car auction repair / prep work

 

Now Welding for Cargotec & Hiab , making heavy lifting equipment - heavy work & very hot

Electrical maintenance technician offshore out of Aberdeen on an FPSO (oil production and storage vessel). Time off is superb and the money good but I spend it like water and usually can't wait until payday!!!

student  ... but im working on placement as a stylist at a small supercar company based in Newmarket called Arash (theyre in this months Top Gear mag).

 

im currently in charge of redesigning about 90% of their current car (not allowed to change the moulds for the front and rear clamshells as that would be too expensive), and if all goes to plan, it should be at next years Geneva Motor Show
