Hi;

I am going to be using Jotun Jotamastic 87 2 Part Epoxy Primer for the underside of my Mini and need an A2 / P2 rated respirator / mask.

I have been using a 3M 4255 (For Welding) but these are supposed to be disposed of after 1 month of use so mines ready for the bin.

I was advised here to try a Moldex Half Mask Respirator with ABEK1 rated canister and a P2 or P3 filter from Farmchem.

Farchem no longer seem to stock them but I have found them here , here and on Amazon here

Anyone use this mask and is it any good? The additional particulate filter fitting seems a little flimsy? Any other recommendations for an A2 / P2 mask?

Thanks

Managed with this one under my Siflite no problems, previously I was using these masks but suffered some breathing problems after a lot of welding, not sure if it was coincidental (cold / flu etc) but didn't want to risk it?

What do you guys use for welding? Not forgetting the original question of course :-)

I was also following this advice:

Metal vapour and your lungs, kidneys, brain etc.

MIG welding and angle grinding results in metal vapours.

Aluminium alloy vapour and fumes from zinc coatings are poisonous. Exposure can result in heavy metal poisoning (welding shivers) - flu like symptoms that can persist for a few days. The zinc coating should be removed from galvanised steel before welding, and wear a proper charcoal welding mask when you go anywhere near zinc.

It doesn't stop there - the fumes from flux cored gas-less wire and ARC welding are nasty. Stainless gives off chromium, MIG and TIG arcs give off ozone. Welding should be carried out in a well ventilated area.

This stuff is cumulative. Professional workshops normally have extraction systems. A DIY approach might be to leave the garage door open when welding. For prolonged welding It's a good idea to wear a vapour mask.

I use a 3M 6000 series full face respirator with the multi gas filter 54186 and the 5N11 particulate filter. If you spray a lot with it you'll want the tear offs for the shield.

I think it works I can still type :-) I think, I am typing aren't I?

Now I definitely wouldn't get an S6 or S10 Respirator under my Welding Mask!!!

Only problem is that occasional the visor has to be replaced from over spray but there fairly cheap
