I have come to a decision about the underside of my Midas project. It's going to be a nightmare to paint underneath the body (I will be doing it myself) and although it's not a "factory" finish, I'm considering doing the bottom and arches in either a hard-wearing paint or perhaps an underseal-type product.

The question is, as I don't need rust prevention, do I need an underseal-type finish or would a decent paint be good enough to survive stones etc? What do people recommend I should use?

Underseal is not great stuff anyway. I would use a good quality stone chip.

Underseal on mine, wish there wasn't - it sticks well!

It's bad news if you need to get a clean grease free surface to repair, I'd go for something that'll sand off - or how about  aluminium skid trays?

I would just apply stonechip same as you would on a steel shell, if you get it in black then just don't bother painting body colour but avoid the bitumen based ones just use the overpaintable one.

Wunderseal - by far the best thing to paint on the underside of fibreglass panels.
