I'm using a honda loom for the honda engine but both looms will be connecting at a + point.

the honda connects at the fuse box which is standard for the honda loom.

and i am using the honda barrel for the honda loom as standard.

my question is.

you know the yellow relay....

do i need it still?

and the wires that go to the mini barrel, what do i do with these? as this key will be redundant?

this is the only bit I'm now stuck on.

im testing this loom today I've put in but i don't get how to wire this bit up!

thanks!

Not done one in a Mini but the ignition barrel from the Honda will have to feed the wiring exactly the same way as the original Ignition barrel, so the wires off the standard barrel will connect to the new Honda one to provide Ignition on- Start and Off. I assume that the Honda loom will them go outwards to connect to the new engine. So your new loom will interface with the original loom so you dont have to have a custom loom made. Are you intending to interface both or make whats required as you progress on?

yes thats correct.

so if i connected both looms at the same point i.e. the honda ignition barrel technically speaking it should be 'as standard' and all operate as normal (mini wise)

as i need to test the loom that its all working correctly.

I don't have a mini ignition barrel to plug in to test it. and the honda one is elsewhere. could i simply connect the ignition barrel wires together or would this not do anything?

i was thinking just connecting them all up together and putting all the brown wires of the starter motor onto the + to supply the positive feed to the loom.

would this work to test the loom?

thanks

As long as the brown wires on the original solenoid which fed the fusebox and the Honda Ignition switch switches the powerd circuits exactly the same then thats the bulk of power sorted, But shout again if you have issues.

What ecu are you using for the Honda the standard one? or are you using a basic aftermarket ecu which is a lot easier to setup wiring wise?

i dont understand. there is no mini engine bits whats so ever. the only bit that i have that goes to the engine still in the loom is those brown wires.

there is no solenoid I've cut all that out

no solenoid,

no coil

also the fuse box on mine has all the normal wire colours and number of wires going to it. i noticed that the white wire from the barrel goes to the fuse box directly which is why I'm confused lol

so what your saying is..

the brown wires are definitely the only live ones needed

the mini ignition barrel wiring would need to be connected to the honda ignition barrel so still switches the power on and off when the key is touched.

sound about right?

the problem i have is i don't have a barrel. so is there a way to surpass this to test it?

As long as the fuse box is fed and the inside car loom is still there then yes and is there a original mini loom in the engine compartment ?

i can't remember exactly but the brown wire originally from the starter motor goes to the yellow relay and through to position 3 on the fuse box and there is also another brown wire that goes to the same relay from the ignition barrel with a white wire from the ignition barrel to position 1 on the fuse box

I've moved the whole loom to the inside. i cut out, water temp and coil feeds.

the fuse box is as normal I'm very sure of it, went over the haynes manual like sniper to a dear!

as long as i have a mini ignition barrel to test with. i should be good i think??

Sounds good there are on a few wires to the original loom which go to the engine on a carb mini anyway
