hey guys.. its been awhile since ive posted.. im driving a 998 A+ CLUBMAN with a stage 1 kit.. in other words i have a LCB, HS4 with AAU needle and uprated springs, K&N cone high air flow filter, high flow fuel pump, 8mm silicone spark plug cables, lucas gold sport coil and so on..

lately ive been having issues when i idle my car at any revs it will pop.. as in the exhaust makes a small pop pop pop sound like a misfire.. does anyone have any ideas as to whats causing it? thanks in advance :)

I have readjusted the fuel mixture and even before I got the AAU needle It was causing the same problem.. So can't be the mixture.. Also I'm using a non ballasted coil 12v unit

Best thing to do will be get it on a rolling road now you have had the stage 1 kit fitted.

The popping is coming from a rich mixture continuing to combust in the exhaust (strictly speaking combustion happens in the exhaust anyway, but when the engine is running rich the combustion in the exhaust is much more severe and noticeable)

As mentioned, a rolling road will allow your engine to be mapped with its new components and a needle profiled to suit

Well I wouldnt worry too much then, is it possible you are only hearing the popping now the weathers warmer and your windows are open when driving around?

Ahh I didnt see that!

If you havent changed the fueling then chances are something has failed in the ignition system. But it is quite common for popping to happen on an engine that has been modified in the way yours has, mine pops quite readily but I do have a larger exhaust which highlights this.

Does the car run any differently? loss in performance or anything?

i wouldn't say loss of power but rather not smooth idling.. so its rough when it idles.. when the pop happens you can see the revs drop by maybe 100rpm for a sec and return back to the orginal spot..
