I think for what they did the money charged was far to much, you could have gone some where who had a CO meter and put a standard needle in (£5) and set the CO, 10mins.

well to be honest im thinking that the standard needle made a bit richer might be a better outcome!

Thats shoddy work anyone who sets the mixture before checking the timing is not worth the time to drive there, for all they knew your car could have been 8degs retarded. Mixture and timing would be set and adjusted on the setup. Your being kind saying there a good garage, they obviously know nothing about classics, or even worked on the earlier stuff pre ecu.

 

Its going to be difficult for you to get it sorted, how far are you away from AC Dodd in the west country? worth a trip maybe

 

pardon my french but what kind of idiot tunes the carb without tuning the timing first.. seems a bit silly and completely agree with Kernow.. not worth the trip.. you should try and find a mechanic that knows classics and has the patience to work on it.. :)
