Hi all just want to check a couple of things, I have changed my Mini from a 1000cc to a 1275cc, at present the log book still shows the 1000cc engine number can I still put the car in for a MOT ? the 1275 unit has a engine number, I purchased the engine from a someone who was scraping a Metro so should be no issues with the engine number showing against another car.

Secondly I have lost the poxy receipt for the engine but a friend of mine who does car repairs part time can draft me a receipt to show the fitting of a customer supplied engine to get the V5 changed but he is not qualified mechanic, does anyone have experience with trying to get the engine number changed as to how fussy they are these days.

Can of worms you may now open !

You need to notify your insurance company of the engine size change for obvious reasons. The DVLA will either require an engineers report or an inspection. Go to a good freindly local garage and explain your situation and ask can they writeyou a report on your Mini engine replacement has been correctly installed and inspected by them etc.  A little cash receipt for your engine purchase will not be good eough as that does not prove its been fitted correctly and safely.

I have read that some owners have had insurance problems in doing this engine size change as the car has been modified, (I had no problem with my van once I sent engineers report with my MOT to DVLA my V5 came with 1275 engine size)

Good luck

Engineer report? Umm I was not requested to provide an engineer report when I changed the engine for my car. mind you the displacement didn't change only the ID number.

Regardless of the fact that my engine has been changed twice in the lifetime of the car, it still appears as a 998 for the insurance despite being a 1275 on the V5. And the insurance company, despite me declaring on a form it was a metro engine, considered it a standard replacement engine and so insurance didn't jump up that much.

The regulations regarding emissions (provided your car is pre cat) are pretty much the same for all minis, Mine came up on the MOT computer as an ERA turbo. Go to a local MOT centre they tend to be more understanding than a massive chain like kwik fit.

Thanks' the car is fully insured with every single change/modification I have done declared, doubled my insurance to £200 lol

The car is now almost finished so just need to know the rules before I get the MOT booked up.

Main thing is will the MOT man check the number ? or should I wait until the V5 is changed before I go for the MOT.
