Unless you've money to burn theres no point buying one to practise, just rake you time and double check everything

Still don't know what year or type engine I should go for ?.

Anything mid-1970's onwards with the rod change and 4 syncro gearbox whether A Series or A+, 998cc or 1275cc from a Mini /1990's Cooper or early Metro should be fine for your needs.

Earlier 1960-70's magic wand and remote 3 syncro gearboxes and 850cc engines are now much rarer and only worth using if you are building an early Mini which needs to maintain orginalty. Any original 1960's Cooper or Cooper S A Series will be very expensive if you can find any.....

The cooper or cooper s is way out of my reach , I want to build one up over time , just trying to get part of a small unit to do the work at the moment , I can do the engine in my little workshop / shed but when I get a full car the unit is a must , cheers Chris.
