Turns over but wont start MPI

changed the gearbox at weekend but car wont start now.


Has fuel pressure, oil pressure, battery feed but no spark.

Checked all the sensors etc any ideas?



please help.

when you switch the ignition on can you hear the fuel injection pump going ?

switch ignition on and open the boot you should hear it..
if not open the bonnet and on the right hand side at the very back is a button under a rubber cover, press it to make sure that the inertia sensor has not tripped.. if it clicks then it tripped and should start.

if not that open the fuse box (under dash beside drivers door) and look at the fuel injection system fuse..

i think it is 4th row down on the left.. 10 amp..
tells you on the cover..
make sure that has not blown.

if fuel system is working you need to check for a spark...

It definately has fuel.... removed plug and I got squirted in the face with the fuel mist when we turned it over !!

The coil pack has a 12v feed - Checked with meter.

It would appear thet the timing system is not telling the coil pack to fire. Held plug against block and no spark when turning the engine over.

It's maybe the crank sensor on the flywheel housing - Dave, it might be worth removing it and cleaning up just in case. Also, the blue connector on the bracket above the starter, check the resistance figure - Can't remember what Mr Green Flag said it should be though !!

I'm thinking that maybe something did not like being disturbed...

Done done and done shaz and still no spark.

when you take a plug out you get the mist of fuel but no spark from the plug.

there is a feed going to the coil but no spark



was it 1600 ohms??

have you checked all the electrical connections? (sounds obvious, but you never know!)

If you have a feed but no spark then it could be the coil pack..

Not sure how common these are to pack in though..

I will have a look in the trusty book tonight and see what other things to check .

Right i've used a voltmeter on the coil pack connector and i get 12volts from the second one in, then when cranked 9 volts from the other two.

I'm thinking the coil has had it.

Crank sensor plugged back in?? Or damaged??

Have you changed the clutch while it was out?

Plug leads on the coil in the right order??

Crank sensor is back in undamaged.

Leads in right order. bottom left is one and clock wise round??

yes clutch was changed and everything adjusted properly

I think you've got the leads on wrong mate, it's not a dizzy.

Sprocket will be able to tell you how they go.

Did you get the specific injection clutch??

And the coil is, 1,2,3,4 anticlockwise when looking at the coil with the LT connector plug at the bottom, No1 is the bottom left

yeah i did it looked exactly the same as the one i took out, except newer.

poo wrong way round thatys because i was tired that. i'll check in morning.
