I had a job interview earlier and I was talking about my plans to use a K series in my Mini, the interviewer said "do you know the Honda K series is actually the same engine?" I said "Just their own head then?" and he replied "No its exactly the same."

I know the PG1 box is a honda box but I thought they were completely different engines??

Completly different engines

Honda did supply engine/gearboxes for several rover cars in the distant past

rovers with honda engines in are very different. k-series engines are on the left (when looking in the engine bay) and the gearbox on the right,

honda engined ones such as the 1.6 which was usually in automatic format in the square 400/200 is the opposite way around, engine on the right, gearbox on the left. its like that in allot of the hondas though.

i hope the guy interviewing you wasnt a mechanic, if he is he obviously hasnt worked on many rovers.

It was for a maintenance engineering apprenticeship at Essar, so it's not car related but it's still engineering.

There are loads of these car related urban myths that get passed around, like the fact that Porsche engines fit in a vw camper with just four bolts. They don't.

i have heard that one too Tamworthbay!

there are indeed allot of these tales going around. i used to work at a garage where we dealt allot with rovers, quite often people would tell us how their rover had the honda engine, then i would open the bonnet and be met with the usual k-series. i must have worked on a couple of hundred rovers while i was there, and only 1 had a honda engine in all that time!

Love the rover with honda engine one

'Its got the Honda engine so is reliable'

Chap work said the Honda turbo engine in the 75 is one he'd have

I'm sure its a 1.8 K series Turbo?

I used to hear it at almost every petrol station when I owned the T2 . In end I used to say that whilst I knew that did they know that a jag V12 also fits but the exhausts have to point down and end up cleaning the road. The reaction was always worth a laugh.

It was a small subset of the Honda D series which was shared with Rover, not the K.
