Hi All,

I currently own a 1992 998cc mini, I'm currently doing a little project at the moment and would like to know what the next best thing performance wise is do on the mini, currently the mini has a stage 1 kit.

I have just overhauled the suspension, brakes dampers ect, these have been up graded to hi lo's, moulton rubbers, gaz lowered dampers, 4 pot alloys calipers, adjustable tie bars, 7.5 disc conversion, poly bushes all round.

I'm not looking for an amazing amount of power but a little kick budgeting £500-700, any information or pointers, difficulty ,costs ect....or what have you done to your mini, power increase costs ect.

Thank you
by the way beautiful weather :)

Ge your head worked by a specialist, possibly a new cam like a kent 266, megajolt? or a curved distributor

Thank you gremlin and harrysmini, a worked head and kent cam would be inside my budget, of £500-700 I understand mattering on specialists but a rough idea would be very handy.

Regarding carb good question I believe it is a standard HS4 1 1/2 believe needle is aaa, just going from previous owners paper work.

Single HS4 is good for a 998, no need to out anything else on

Yep, single HS4 would be good, or single HIF38 if you wanted something a bit more modern.

Alternatively, you could get a set of twin HS2s, they will give you a bit more torque and better throttle response. If you 'vizardise' them, they will be as efficient as a pair of HS4s as well. Twin HS2s aren't too expensive either. I picked up a set the other day for £50 delivered.

Thanks for the info!

Probably a silly question how can I tell difference from the carbs, the reason why I am saying this is I run a property clearance company and the other day we came across about 15 boxes full of mk1-mk4 engine parts , electrical ect and from my memory there were about 3 dozen carbs, so I could check there first, but knowing which is which is my problem ( sorry if a silly question , knowing my luck it's printed on carb :))

Post up some pictures, HS2's have the stud holes above and below the choke and the choke measures 1 1/4"s, HS4's have the stud holes diagonally and the choke measures 1 1/2"s

Do like me :)

12G940 head (18cc chambers)

Kent MD276 cam (270/280)

MegaJolt

2 x HS2

Freeflow manifold + RC40 exhaust

Should give me close to 60bhp I hope.

I'd say 65, I got 56 from 295 head alloy inlet, lcb, 2" straight through exhaust, flowed HS4 and ram pipe - 10:1 cr. Now added piper 255 cam so reckon I've got close to 65

What were the costs involved in these?
55-65 bhp would be a nice achievement currently 45bhp

£6 ram pipe
£free carb flowing
£10 inlet manifold
£acquired 295 head
£50 lcb
£15 exhaust (homemade from pieces from a scrap yard)
£70 electronic dizzy conversion
^ = 56 BHP
now has a Piper 255 cam and I reckon it's now at about 65 although haven't had it rolling roaded

i got 65 bhp from mine but cost more than £700 :L

if your gonna go to the length or changing things you may as well over haul the engine because it has to come out to change the cam anyway
