I don't recommend this either! If you never use axle stands we might as well say goodbye to you now!

Just in case, you know!

You need 2 300mm adjustable spanners or similar.

2,3m spanners! O_O
Wouldnt it be 30cm?

I read 2300mm :P My brain stopped for a moment when I read that, one of those "huh" moments :P

I wouldn't, you end up quite a way under the car. If the jack slipped it would be very bad indeed. Get a decent trolley jack and axle stands. They will happily go under the front subframe. NEVER work under a car solely supported by a jack, it's the last thing many mechanics have done.

I have actually been under a car when the jack has failed. Luckily it was a Landrover so the ground clearance was high anyway, I also only had it jacked up a bit, so the wheels were about an inch off the ground. The jack slipped and it fell over.

This was with the factory bottle jack on gravel, a recipe for disaster.

Id never work under the car without axle stands, but just for adjusting the hilos a trolley jack is all i use. However i still recommend axle stands if you can get one under :P
