According to the data sheet it requires a2/p2 charcoal respirator which the gerson disposable mask provides so not to bad, also if just roller or brush applied it only states charcoal filter preferable. I would roller the underside especially as putting stonechip over it.

I have not used epoxy myself yet, but joton 87 gets a good review on mig welding forum. Depends where you are based but look for industrial or marine paint supplies as it is used a lot on boats. Black Country paints in Wolverhampton are nearest for me but don't limit yourself to autopaint suppliers.

Not looked for a local supplier but have found an example of it on the web here that's £50.00 for about 35m2 that's about 6 Minis?? I live on the coast so I'm sure i'll find it locally.

You need proper safety gear to use it though

Just read a safety data sheet for spraying epoxy mastic coatings it states that an Air Fed or Solvent / Particulate Filter mask should be worn but it doesn't say what type? Can you elaborate on what recommended safety gear is needed - thanks.

If workers are exposed to concentrations above the exposure limit, they must use
appropriate, certified respirators. Use respiratory mask with charcoal and dust filter
when spraying this product.(as filter combination A2-P2). In confined spaces, use
compressed-air or fresh-air respiratory equipment. When use of roller or brush,
consider use of charcoalfilter.

It also states in the Annex for Professional Use: Spraying - Manual - Indoor: Minimise exposure by partial enclosure of the operation or equipment and provide extract ventilation at openings. Wear a full-face respirator conforming to EN136 with Type A/P2 filter or better.

Full Face masks with suitable filters are about £100 E.G. This One might need to sweet talk a painter :-)

Sorry busy reading and missed your post, good idea i'll roller it on, that will avoid all the hazards of spraying this stuff and the cost of a Full Face Mask!!

Make sure you're in a well ventilated area away from any neighbours, family members or animals.

Also, if you return to the area during the curing process you need to put on ppe again.

So doing this in my garage is not an option? Got no where else isolated to do it?

Iv'e decided on Epoxy Primer, either JOTON 87 here or 1Ltr of HMG Epoxy Primer from a local dealer (£15 - 1 Ltr Epoxy / £15 - 1 Ltr Hardener) and will roller it on to reduce the hazard.

For the Stone Chip I have decided on U-POL Gravitex however, as far as applying it will any Shutz gun do the job?

I have looked at the U-POL gun here but its £39.42!!!

What about this gun or any of these which are even cheaper??

Any advice?

Any gun designed to fit the cartridge will work, obviously the upol one will be better quality but all will do the job.

More questions on using an Epoxy primer.

I have just started the underside today but have not ordered the JOTUN yet. I still have some repairing and welding to do on the underside Heelboard / Sills etc!!!

Before I apply the JOTUN 87 Epoxy is it OK to Acid Etch (U-POL Acid 8) any bare metal to protect it before I apply the Epoxy?

I'll also be using U-POL Weld Through Primer in the seams.

I'd like to get all the underbody repairs done before applying the Epoxy or at least split the underbody up into 3 - 4 stages.

Thanks

Thanks Daz - I'll get the Epoxy ordered I guess I'll just have to clean off any surface rust that forms :-(

Hi JonnyAlpha, How are you getting on with the Jotun epoxy. Im thinking of ordering some soon. Their Jotomastic 87, Penguard epoxy primers and No 17 epoxy  thinners are about half the price of the Rustbuster epoxy products I was originally looking at and appear to be the same product. Any progress ?

I took my boot floor and arches back to metal, treated any surface rust then painted with por15.
When the paint had dried I scuffed it with 80 grit, masked off where the subframe mounts go, gravitexed the lot then painted it.

Ahh just noticed this thread is from a while back, I'll shut up.
