Hi can some one please advise what the small silver lug /or adaptor is with a tiny hole, on the top of cylinder head just to the right of thermostat housing.

I have removed the engine from spi 1300 94 model and was not aware of this tiny part.

Is it a water bypass for the head ?. , as there was nothing connected to this on removal as far as i can see.

Looks like a rivet, can't imagine it why it's there, it may be blocking a hole into the coolant jacket?

I think it's just blocking a hole left from the casting process.

You don't connect anything to it, it's just a rivet type thing that's there from when it was cast.

i sure i read somewhere that unleaded heads had rivet fitted there to identify them from leaded heads. might just be a myth but fits with age of the engine its off

It's to close an oil way drilling, as suggested above.

I have a slight weep from the rivet similar to the OP picture.

What is it, where do you get one from, how do you get it out?

Before they went to the 'Rivet' they used to fit brass plugs.

 

You would be best for a number of reasons, to remove the head to sort it. One, you need to drill it to remove it, so you'll want good access to do that. The other is so you can clean all the swarf out and be sure it's out.

 

I tap them 5/16" UNF and fit a Grub Screw with some loctite to seal them.

also please note the rivet in not a rivet you get at B&Q as the "normal" rivets are open this is a closed rivet.

 

and the comment above about the rivet showing that it was an unleaded head is false it was just a cost saving move that came with all A+ heads. some were leaded and some were unleaded.

Yeah, good luck with that. Get it from Somerfords, at least i) you will actually receive it and ii) it will be the right thing.
