Moto-Lita Mk4 - bought mine from their Surbiton shop in the 1970's just down the road from John Coopers workshop where it all started:

HISTORY

Moto-Lita - a thoroughbred through and through

history17.jpg Simon at the Cooper Car Co. circa 1951

"With some trepidation a young boy, just fourteen years old, pushed open the door and stepped into the premises of the famous Cooper Car Company. A short while later, as he donned his overalls and began his apprenticeship, he had no inkling of the success story that would unfold before him. That young boy was Simon Green, founder and managing director of Moto-Lita.

Working for the famous British racing car maker was a dream come true and three years later, having proven his skills, Simon was tasked with making steering wheels for Cooper’s racing cars - a skilled and responsible job that paid the princely sum of eight old pence per hour. Having served his time at Cooper’s, Simon moved on to work with Rodney Clarke and Mike Oliver at Connaught Engineering - makers of club and F2 racing cars - before taking a position with another race-car manufacturer, Hersham & Walton Motors, better known as HWM.

These were exciting times; the heyday of British Motor-sport and Simon Green was a young man in the thick of it. Cooper cars were establishing themselves as a British thoroughbred, Connaught enjoyed a degree of success and HWM were building some innovative cars while establishing one of Britain’s first travelling race teams. Stirling Moss was cutting his race-winning teeth with Cooper and HWM, and Simon was realising that he was truly passionate about high-quality, well-designed and effective steering wheels."

House clearance shop near mine had a 10 inch steering wheel in it but no boss. Anyone after one message me with how much you want to pay for one and I'll see if they still have it and how much they want to sell it for.

Cheers Ross but I lost the bid so took it as a sign and have moved onto a hunt for a deeper-dished wheel :-)

I'm intrigued by the desire for deep dished steering wheels.  Perhaps it is my long background in gravel rallying, however I've always wanted as flat a wheel as I can get and so all my old ones and my current one are dead flat?

Genuinely interested as to why people are attracted to dished steering wheels and wondered whether there is a practicality reason or just personal taste?

something different!!

but i will be mounting my bucket seat on the floor behind the floor cross member so i might need the wheel a little bit closer than what a flat wheel can offer

I'm 6ft2 and have to have my seat all the way back so my knees aren't up round my ears haha. Only problem with that is you're miles away from the wheel... so I have a nice deep dish one.

I went for a omp dished wheel due to getting a bad back. Originally with the flat wheel I would hunch over it like donkey kong on mario cart. Dished wheel makes me sit back properly in my seat... plus it looks and feels nicer.
