The current block is scored and corroded as been sat for 20 years in a field. And only wanting to re-bore for experiance as I have never done a mini engine before. And also for the slight gain I would get from it.

Gain is negligible unless you're trying to squeeze as much as you can out of a high level of tune - which it doesn't sound like you will be. Remember if you go too far it will be a pig to drive normally (i.e. not ragging it)

Experience - will you be doing the rebore yourself? If you are, fair enough. If not, you give it to an engine shop and it comes back with shiny bores a fraction of an inch wider. There's not much experience in it.

If it's sat around for ages and the bores are no good then you need a rebore. Go to the next step. As someone said, you'll need to see what pistons are in it or measure the bores to see if it's already had a rebore and what the next step for you is.

I'm waiting for a load of tools being transported from my garage up north to me and once they are here ill be able to tell if it's be bored or not. And ye I'm doing everything myself. Should be a good experiance. What would people recommend doing for performance. I'm not talking like taking mad just minor stuff but that give a kick.

MG Metro spec, Head work and 266 Cam LCB with Hif44 would be a nice road engine

What sort of power output?
And is it a noticeable change?

Mg metro was about 76 bhp I believe and I have been in one with this engine spec, it went very well indeed, and it's definitely worth spending more time and money on a decent head which flows better and taking the time to make sure the engine is built as accurately as possible, this will give the best results

Quick question just had a look on Minispares at there pistons, and they have a selection going from +60 to +20 I'm guessing that the +20 is for 1293 +40 1330 and +60 for 1380. Please correct me If I'm wrong.

And what head work would be needed?
And what cam would you recommend?
Cheers

1293, 1310, 1330 for standard +20, +40 & +60. After that gets more complex with offsetting.

Yes a engine to MG Metro spec in a Mini is a quick little car without spending silly money, and will be no different to servicing a normal Mini

Would it be worth just sticking a metro turbo in? Seeing as I'd be doing an engine swap anyway?

A mini is only about half the weight of many your modern hatchback (or thereabouts.)  They are noisier, less 'plush' and lower to the ground so your perception of speed is different.  I'm recently back to minis and have found my ∼72 BHP feels really excellent with loads more vavavoom than my old workaday car.

Sounds like you need to thoroughly search this forum; it really is a goldmine of info.  The 'in-forum' search isn't particularly great so use Google and start your search with theminiforum, you'll find every mod that's ever been considered. :-)

Thanks will do that have been looking for some threads with different types of mods that you can do but had trouble finding it. Anyway my project 1993 mini is coming on nicely no rust there was a lot. Getting it ready for a nice new body kit and spray. Anywhere I can post pictures of progress?
Cheers

If you're looking for a quick power gain then simply boring you're engine to any of the oversizes will gain you little if anything. The capacity of the engine is not the limiting factor to increasing power initially.
A decent stage one kit would see the biggest initial gains for the least outlay. After this the next bottleneck is the cylinder head, then a camshaft change.
I would bore the engine to the smallest size required to clean up the bores. Flat top & dished pistons will give different compression ratios, used with different sized chambers in the cylinder head to achieve the desired ratio. What ratio you require will depend on the camshaft type used & fuel octane used.

Phil.
