Hello

I have been looking at Kent Cams today, for an A+ Series Engine...

I am currently considering an ACD-RS, however I was also looking at Kent too.

Can someone point me in the right direction for a good Cam that is going to increase grunt, but not be lumpy when sat at idle and not hard to start either.

Cheers

Rich

What size is your engine and what state of tune? If your using a standard head then the cam will be waisted

My favourite cam for fast road use is the MG Metro, the best Kent equivalent is the 266.

The 276 is good also.

Prepare for everyone to tell you that a 286 is good for road use, but I personally don't like them. They have a horrible idle and are only of real use on a track day car where a high revving engine (prolonged periods at 7000RPM) is practical.

What am I going to get from it??? Is it going to be enjoyable to drive???

Well at the minute its a work in progress, I am getting the engine over sized to a 1330 (+.60), using minispares P21253-60 pistons, standard conrods, nitrided crank, centre strap, 3.1 final drive and fully overhauled gearbox, as for the head, I have no idea what to choose yet, I am hoping for it to be ported and polished, but no idea on the valve sizes yet, but it has to be Unleaded. Cheers

I have a 276 in my 1330 which is running a HIF44 with stubstack, BV Head 10.2 CR, Maniflow Stg 2 and 1.75" single box side exit, Aldon Yellow, runs very well and slightly lumpy idle but hardly anything and very driveable recommended, just ensure your carburations spot on this will make a tremndous difference to driveability.

Loom at some of the med cam kits there good cams aswell iv got a piper 285 cam which is a all out fast road cam but the do milder cams

And also the 286 isn't a horrible cam as stated saying it's too rough it depends on other parts of the engine to balance that cam out

Balance the cam out ? perhaps you could feed us a bit more info on how thats done, as I was always under the inpression setup correctly the on road driveability of a 286 will be in in the cams powerband.

Balance the cam out??

The 286 has a power band of 2000-7500 RPM, there's no overcoming that.

How a cam is timed in will effect the power band and drivability to some extent
