I'm sure this is a stupid question but I can't get the speedo cable out of the back of the cluster

I trying to remove the three dials to clean up and add a voltage stabiliser and I can't get the cable out, in the haynes manual it just says remove it but I'm not sure it's as simple as that

On the back it has a plastic clip, looks like a retainer but I'm not sure

Can anyone advise?
