I don't know if this has been asked before, so I apologise if it has.  >_<

But anyway, I was just wondering about peoples thoughts & opinions on their favourite roads to drive in the UK. I'm asking because we (my partner & I) are thinking of taking a week or ten days off in the summer & heading around the country in the Mini, just to explore & take in some of the great views/scenery we have here as well as to have a bit of fun on some nice bendy bits! Also thinking that we could make a sort of recommendations page out of it, for us all to share our favourites.

I might as well start us off; I enjoy pretty much any of the winding roads/lanes on Exmoor, but love the B3223 heading towards Lynton/Lynmouth - occasional sightings of Exmoor Ponies & deer, as well as fabulous views of North Devon, mixed in with some great corners to zip around. Although the A39 along the coast is pretty amazing too.

So yeah, what's your favourite road to drive (in a Mini or not) & why?

:teehee:

Lincolnshire:

Caistor to Bigby, to Barnetby

Only a short one but a good one. My friend and I blasted this one a couple of weeks back, sun shining, fleetwood mac on the stereo, lovely swooping bends and rolling hills:

Really nice one here, favoured by bikers, great on a pushbike and better in a car. Some great bends and bumpy straight bits:

Another road favoured by bikers, my uncle took me down there in his cooper s (2006) and it was brilliant:

North Yorkshire:

The B1248 is great, and if you turn left at the roundabout before Wharram Percy (bikers cafe just before roundabout) then you can take it towards pocklington through sledmere. Turn right after you're into Sledmere and follow it.

This is always a good one in the spring with the heather and whatnot on the side of the road:

Gloucestershire into Wales:

Amazing both ways, the little seat ibiza struggled up here when mum drove it at christmas full of presents and luggage, my aunties scirocco devours it though, highly recommend this one:

Maybe not the best you've ever heard of but the best I know of (So far) :)

Horseshoe pass north Wales is a good drive (or ride if you are a biker,I am) and the Ponderosa cafe at the top is excellent :-)

My FZ6n-S2 (catchy name)

Ironbridge and the roads around there are good

I want to explore the Lakes in more detail and last year we went up to Whitby, stayed in the 'Heartbeat' hotel, The Goathland its very nice and reasonably priced for a stay on an adventure plus the steam train from Pickering to Whitby is ace, I am such an old fart before my time!

Thats my Focus outside the 'Aidensfield arms' our room was the window in the middle above facing Bernies garage.

The main thing is to enjoy it, so enjoy it :-)

One of the finest roads in the entire UK is the road in mind-Wales from Tregaron to Abergwesyn. It is known as the 'Devil's Staircase', but is best driven at night. It was and is used on many road rallies and is ideal for a Mini.

Check it out.

Look at the a543 on google maps. Or if you want a challenge, the hard knot pass has a gradient of 33% in places!

Yes, Hardnott & Wrynose Passes in the Lake District are superb. To drive them as fast as is possible at night in the wet in a Mini is very adrenaline producing too! Been there, done that! Some of the 'drops' are awesome, but at night you don't notice them.

I love driving over the Brecon beacons when there's nobody else on the road :D

I delivered a Porsche Boxster back from Swansea last summer. I came back through the Beacons as someone had turned off motorways on the sat nav (real shame that).... Stuck to 60 though obviously
