Should it matter that the dizzy is a custom one rebuilt By Aldon for my set up?
I would have expected Aldon to put the drive dog on the dizzy shaft in the correct position but it sure sounds like the one you have is off by as much as 90 degrees or so.
As mentioned above, the nominal orientation is for the rotor to point towards 1:00 o'clock. Pull the drive gear out of the block and continue trial and error fitting of the gear and distributor (moving the drive gear counterclockwise each time) until you get the rotor pointed where you want it to be. A
Do not sweat about this. The absolute position/orientation of the drive gear is not important. What is important is that the gear position allows you to swing the distributor body through a sufficient angle to allow setting the ignition timing properly. This is your engine and your distributor. Put the drive gear where you want it so you can swing the distributor through a decent angle to set the ignition timing... ideally such that the rotor points generally towards 1:00 o'clock.

When you set the dizzy drive shaft to the position in the manual with 1 & 4 at TDC, make sure it is firing on No.1, not no.4.

B in the pic is the convetional position for the dizzy drive with cyl 1 at firing TDC (both valves are closed)
Please note that the red part is bigger than the blue one.

At 8 to 2 position the distributor itself , the rotar arm is n the
4 o clock position where I though the rotar arm is to be at the top
Right hand position
Any one help
