what size are my brake discs, the car is a standard sprite, with 12 inch wheels

If the car is totally standard as you say, it should have 8.4" disks that are standard fitment to all minis with 12" wheels.

will 10 inch wheels fit on if i use 1" spacers

it depends on the wheel you are using, and of course you will need to fit longer studs to your drive flanges to compensate for the spacers. Wella's may fit, Mamba's definitely won't, 10x4.5 or 10x5 MWS Minilites won't (i need 1/8 spacers to get them over 7.5 discs with 4pots), other wheels may do depending on the offset and the interior diameter. Steels almost certainly won't.

Its possible, although i'm pretty convinced they won't. You might be lucky with spacers, but you really need to try before you buy. Ideally you need to get your discs machined down to 7.9", and fit smaller calipers, this will save on the extra loading and stress put on your hubs from the spacers.

well yes it is, probably in the region of £300 for the machining and the new calipers, but if you want to run 10's then thats the only way to do it, other than to buy a set of cheap S discs and rebuild the calipers, cv's, ball joints etc yourself, which would work out about the same i'd imagine, if you add in your own labour time. Depends really on what your after.

as i thought we were discussing the money side the other day, hes off to spain now though for two weeks, he was deciding to buy a set of new alloys and wheels for bout 400 + but hes on a budget, any other ideas to have nice wheels for the lad? :cool: get on the cool side with non standards

some split rims would be nice, siggy and woody know quite a lot about those rims, they'd be able to tell you more - but i'd amagine for £400 you'd be talking 'budget' tyres
