Everyone enjoying the lovely weather. Been thinking since I had time on hands considering re doing my gearbox and if anyone has recently re done one and if they have a parts list or would it be cheaper and better in the long run to send it in and get the whole engine re done just opinions and help please.

All the major Mini specialists have parts catalogues available, Mini Spares have just updated theirs.

Minispares ans minispeed will do you a gearbox rebuild kit. I'm pretty sure guessworks does one too.

I got mine from minispeed. Scott was very helpful and my gearbox builder was very impressed with the quality of the parts and that everything was covered. I needed a replacement gear and misc bits which guessworks sorted.

I think the rebuild kit with all bearings, baulk rings, seals, gaskets, diff pin, layshaft etc was £150. The bearings and components were all very good.

I just asked Scott to give me what they would put in a fully rebuilt box. His list was more comprehensive than the others and much cheaper.

Is there a way I could get a hold of said list?

I've posted a list on your other thread. A rebuild kit is the very basics. As always you won't know what you need until you get it open, inspected and measured.

I haven't kept it. Just phone a few suppliers and ask what kit they do or could put together. I'm pretty sure the Minispares site still lists a kit with details of what's in it.

Unless you want to do it yourself, because you want to learn, then you should consider Guessworks (on here). First rate service and quality, good prices too.

The 5 major bearings will cost nearly £200 retail for genuine RHP...

  • 1 x AAU1365 ROLLER DOUBLE FOR MAINSHAFT IN GEARBOX
  • 1 x AAU8424 ROLLER 1st MOTION SHAFT PILOT TO CLUTCH CASE
  • 1 x ADU7619 ROLLER SINGLE TYPE FOR HOLDING 1ST MOTION SHAFT
  • 2 x AHU1856 DIFFERENTIAL ROLLER

We've all ready the stories about 'unbranded' wheel bearings.... gearbox bearings are no different...

I suspect someone will try and supply an £80 gearbox kit, but shafts will be made of rubber and bearings made of cheese...

As a bit of guidance when I rebuild an A+ gearbox I use the following...

  • 13H9513 x 2 - NEEDLE ROLLER 1ST MOTION/LAYSHAFT 4 SYNC
  • 22G2033 x 4 - BAULK RING
  • 22G2262 x 6 - SYNCHRO SPRING
  • 31B447 x 1 - SEAL UNDER ROD CHANGE SELECTORS TO GEAR CASE
  • AAU1365 x 1 - ROLLER DOUBLE FOR MAINSHAFT IN GEARBOX
  • AAU8424 x 1 - ROLLER 1st MOTION SHAFT PILOT TO CLUTCH CASE
  • ADU5738 x 2 - DIFF OUTPUT SHAFT OIL SEAL
  • ADU7619 x 1 - ROLLER SINGLE TYPE FOR HOLDING 1ST MOTION SHAFT
  • AHU1856 x 2 - DIFFERENTIAL ROLLER
  • BLS107 x 6 - SYNCHRO BALLS
  • BTA101 x 2 - DIFFERENTIAL THRUST WASHER STANDARD SIZE
  • C-22A1739 x 1 - LAYSHAFT A PLUS performance
  • C-AHT54 x 1 - OIL PIPE HITECH CENTRAL PICKUP GEARBOX
  • C-BTA164 x 1 - DIFFERENTIAL PIN WITH MOLYBDENUM COATING
  • CCN110 x 1 - PILOT BEARING CIRCLIP
  • CDU1563 x 1 - O ring seal for aluminium bush selector shaft
  • CHM141 x 1 - LAYSHAFT LARGE ROLLER
  • DAM5071 x 2 - WASHER THRUST WITH LIP FOR PLANET GEAR,A PLUS
  • DAM6624 x 2 - PLANET GEAR
  • GHF221 x 1 - 1/4" UNF Nyloc nut
  • GHF223 x 1 - 3/8" UNF Nyloc nut
  • TUK100320 x 1 - BEARING ROLLER TYPE FOR A PLUS ONLY FITTED 1996 ON

And the customer gets with the gearbox

  • 13H2934 x 1 - CLUTCH OIL SEAL (ORANGE)
  • AJM804B x 1 - GEARBOX GASKET SET

Sometimes the needle bearings under the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears need replacing, these are approx £15 each new.
